Tesla, Uber, and Waymo Cleared to Deploy Thousands of Robotaxis in Nevada

Nevada has taken a historic step in autonomous vehicle technology by granting operating permits to three of the industry's biggest players: Tesla, Uber, and Waymo. The approvals open the door to a massive expansion of self-driving taxi services in the state and could fundamentally reshape how residents get around on a daily basis.

Collectively, the issued permits cover up to 8,000 vehicles that can be deployed over a 12-month period. This represents one of the largest single approvals of robotaxi operations in United States history and signals growing regulatory confidence that the technology is mature enough for large-scale commercial deployment.

The three companies each bring distinct technological approaches to the table. Waymo, part of Alphabet's portfolio, already runs successful services in cities like Phoenix and San Francisco. Uber partners with external technology providers for its autonomous capabilities, while Tesla relies on its proprietary AI-powered Full Self-Driving system, which notably differs from competitors' lidar-based solutions.

Industry experts view Nevada's decision as a potential precedent-setter for other states.
